The Governor's Commission on Children and Families was
created to work with the Governor and Children's Cabinet of Pennsylvania to
identify barriers to the provision of services that are integrated,
comprehensive, and collaborative in nature; to make recommendations concerning
removing or decreasing these barriers; and to recommend to the Governor and
Cabinet initiatives to improve the lives of children and families in the
Commonwealth.
Governor Rendell appointed OCD staff to the Commission and
they have been active in developing recommendations to:
- Improve children’s mental health and well-being
- Strengthen and support parents and families through Family
Support centers, home visiting, and parent education
- Prevent youth violence
